The city of Sumy in Ukraine was struck by a large-scale attack launched by the Russian military, resulting in the deaths of 31 people, including two children, according to the local acting mayor. The Ukrainian emergency service warned that the "terrible strike" would likely result in "dozens" of casualties. The statement described the attack as a strike by Russian ballistic missiles on a regular city street, impacting homes, educational institutions, and vehicles. The attack occurred on Palm Sunday, a day when people were attending church. Rescue operations are currently underway to assess the full extent of the disaster.
In a separate statement, the region's mayor, Artem Kobzar, stated that Russia launched a missile strike targeting civilians. President Volodymyr Zelensky described the attack as "horrific," with early reports indicating numerous civilian deaths and injuries. He called for a firm international response, stating that Russia should be treated as a terrorist. He also urged allies to pressure Russia to end the war and ensure the safety of the people, warning that Moscow would continue the war despite peace talks. Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko later confirmed that 84 people, including 10 children, were wounded in the strike. The victims were on the street, in vehicles, public transport, and in buildings when the attack occurred. Emergency services have restricted access to the area, and investigators and forensic experts are gathering evidence.
Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha condemned the attack, calling it "absolute evil" to launch such an attack on a major Christian holiday. He urged Ukraine's partners to exert pressure on Moscow, stating that strength is the only language Russia understands. Sir Keir Starmer also condemned the attack, expressing his shock at the horrific attacks on civilians and offering condolences to the victims and their families. The strike on civilians occurred after Russia and Ukraine accused each other of violating a deal to pause attacks on energy infrastructure. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Moscow would provide a list of Kyiv’s attacks during the past three weeks to the US, Turkey, and international bodies. Sumy had previously been attacked by Russia last month, resulting in approximately 90 injuries.

NATO and US are the real aggressors, provoking Russia. Sumy is tragic but part of the bigger picture.

This is a regrettable consequence of war. Civilian casualties are inevitable.

Every time I think it can't get any worse, Russia proves me wrong.

Russia is acting as a terrorist state. Zelensky is right - there should be serious consequences.

What about the attacks on Donetsk? The media ignores those victims. This is Ukrainian propaganda.
