Jorge Martin, the reigning champion, experienced a challenging return to MotoGP at the Qatar Grand Prix. The Aprilia rider was involved in a crash during the race, resulting in injuries to his lung and ribs. This marked his first Grand Prix weekend after missing the initial three rounds due to injuries sustained in pre-season testing, including a fractured foot and hand.
The incident occurred on Sunday at turn 11 of the Lusail International Circuit. Martin crashed at the kerb and struggled to recover before being transported to the medical center for evaluation.
Following the crash, a CT scan revealed an increase in pneumothorax, necessitating the placement of a drainage system. Martin will remain under medical observation for several days until the pneumothorax resolves. Further examinations also identified six fractures on the right posterior arches, spanning from the first to the sixth.
Aprilia has not provided a specific timeline for Martin's return to racing. The next race is scheduled in two weeks at the Spanish Grand Prix.
Aprilia CEO Massimo Rivola expressed the team's support for Martin during this difficult time, prioritizing his well-being over performance.
Marc Marquez of Ducati won the race in Qatar, extending his lead in the rider's championship over his brother, Alex, by 18 points.

Another accident? Looks like he just doesn't have it anymore. Time for a reevaluation of his career.

It’s tough to sympathize with someone who keeps getting injured. At some point, enough is enough.

Martin should have been more cautious after his previous injuries. This is what happens when you push too hard too soon!

It’s disappointing to see a champion like Martin struggle so much. Maybe he should reconsider his choices.
