Alexander Volkanovski demonstrated resilience and skill to win a decision victory over Diego Lopes at UFC 314 in Miami, reclaiming the vacant featherweight title. The fight took place at the Kaseya Center on Saturday night.
Volkanovski had previously held the 145-pound title for four years. He lost the belt to Ilia Topuria by knockout in February 2024. After a successful defense against Max Holloway, Topuria vacated the title to move up to lightweight, creating an opportunity for Volkanovski to regain his position.
Despite facing a height and reach disadvantage, the 36-year-old Volkanovski began the fight strongly. He ended the first round in a dominant position. However, Lopes managed to knock him down with a precise combination in the second round.
Lopes continued to pose a threat in the fourth round. Volkanovski used his experience to avoid further trouble. He landed jabs and moved strategically, ultimately securing the win based on the judges' scores.
In the co-main event, Paddy Pimblett of England defeated Michael Chandler. Pimblett dominated Chandler with strikes before taking the fight to the ground. He then delivered a series of blows, leading to a stoppage in the third round. This victory positioned Pimblett as a potential title contender.

If Lopes had more experience, he would’ve taken that fight easily.

The judges need to be held accountable for scoring this fight in Volkanovski's favor.
