The Singapore Democratic Alliance (SDA) announced on Sunday, April 13th, that it would concentrate its efforts on the Pasir Ris-Changi GRC. The party refrained from confirming whether it would also contest the Punggol GRC.
On Sunday morning, the SDA organized a walkabout in Lengkok Mariam, which falls under the new Pasir Ris-Changi GRC. Eleven party members visited landed houses, engaging with residents for an hour and a half. SDA chairman Desmond Lim informed residents about the recent boundary changes.
The Lengkok Mariam area, previously part of the East Coast GRC, has been incorporated into the new Pasir Ris-Changi GRC for the upcoming General Election. These changes also mean that districts previously under Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC are now part of Pasir Ris-Changi GRC, which will encompass 100,639 voters.
The SDA has participated in every election in Pasir Ris-Punggol since 2006, but has not been successful. The opposition party has been observed conducting walkabouts in the new areas within the Pasir Ris-Changi GRC.
When questioned about contesting Punggol GRC, Mr. Lim stated that the party was still evaluating the situation and would provide an answer the following week. He acknowledged the Workers' Party's interest and emphasized the SDA's intention to avoid three-cornered fights, believing it would not serve the public's best interests.
Mr. Lim confirmed that Pasir Ris-Changi was the primary focus for the SDA's walkabouts, emphasizing the party's strategy to consolidate resources. The SDA aims to optimize its performance by concentrating its efforts in Pasir Ris-Changi. If the SDA contests Punggol GRC, it would be running for a total of eight seats, compared to the five it contested in the 2020 General Election.

Desmond Lim’s comments sound more like wishful thinking than a solid strategy.

Even if they haven’t won before, persistence is key! They deserve a fair chance.

Isn’t it obvious that all their previous efforts in Pasir Ris-Punggol have resulted in failure?

Change takes time! I'm behind the SDA as they aim to build a stronger presence in Pasir Ris-Changi.

Concentrating on Pasir Ris-Changi is just a way to give the illusion of progress. They've done nothing!

It's refreshing to see a party that wants to truly listen to residents and their concerns.

Walkabouts are a great way to gather feedback from voters. Engagement is important in democracy.

I’m glad to see the SDA taking an active role in local politics. Keeping everyone informed is vital!
