Detroit Woman Charged with Animal Torture After Stabbing Dog
Jordan Love, a 29-year-old resident of Detroit, is facing serious animal cruelty charges after she reportedly stabbed her dog and posted footage of the wounded animal on social media. Police say she was charged with second-degree killing and torturing animals, as well as abandoning and exhibiting cruelty towards multiple animals, following her arrest nearly 700 miles from her home.
The incident came to light when Detroit Animal Control received a disturbing report regarding the abuse. Upon arrival at Love's residence, officers had to force their entry and discovered the dog severely injured and left alone in the basement. The dog had suffered multiple stab wounds to its body, according to a statement from the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office. In total, three dogs and four cats were rescued from her property and transferred to the Detroit Animal Care and Control shelter, where they have since been placed in separate foster homes.
Authorities believe that Love recorded and shared a video of the injured dog just hours after the attack, and soon after, she fled to South Carolina. She was apprehended by police after being on the run for 13 days. Once arrested, she was transported back to Michigan, arriving on a Wednesday afternoon. Prosecutors indicated that if convicted, she could face a maximum sentence of nine years in prison. Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy emphasized the seriousness of animal abuse cases, highlighting the ongoing efforts to strengthen related legislation in response to such brutality. Following her arraignment in 36th District Court, Love was given a cash bond of $50,000 and fitted with a GPS tether, with her next court appearance scheduled for April 14.
