Trump Announces Deadline for Illegal Immigrants, Outlines Re-Entry Plan
During a White House Cabinet meeting, President Donald Trump announced an upcoming deadline for illegal immigrants. After this deadline, those who have not left the U.S. will not be permitted to legally reenter.
The President expressed a willingness to collaborate with undocumented immigrants to facilitate their legal return, provided they depart "in a nice way." He indicated that those who leave voluntarily would be assisted in their efforts to return legally.
Trump stated that there would be a specific timeframe, likely around 60 days, after which individuals would be barred from re-entry. The administration is currently focused on a voluntary removal initiative, encouraging illegal immigrants to self-deport.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem highlighted the ongoing self-deportation efforts. She also mentioned that under existing laws and executive orders, undocumented immigrants who have not registered their status could face criminal charges and significant daily fines, preventing their return to the U.S.
The agency is also working to secure funding and resources to support deported immigrants upon their return to their home countries, referencing assistance programs in countries like Mexico, El Salvador, and Colombia. The goal is to provide these individuals with the opportunity to return home and potentially re-enter the U.S. legally.
