Homan Defends Immigration Enforcement Amidst Criticism
Tom Homan, the border czar, views criticism from the media and protests as fuel for his efforts. He believes negative articles about his campaign to arrest and deport illegal aliens confirm he is effectively targeting the issue.
Protests have occurred outside his home, though he was not present at the time. Homan stated he is unconcerned with public opinion, prioritizing the approval of his family and religious beliefs. He does not care what the media thinks of him.
Homan questioned the media's focus, citing instances where they allegedly failed to report on certain issues. He mentioned a case of deportation and questioned why the media did not report on the smuggling of children, the missing children released to sponsors, the increase in sex trafficking, the number of people on the terrorist watch list crossing the border, and deaths from fentanyl.
He highlighted that a congressional report found that illegal aliens on America’s terrorist watch list had been released into the United States. Additionally, he noted the increase in fentanyl seizures at U.S. borders under the current administration compared to the previous one.
Despite criticism, Homan has found some cooperation. New York City Mayor Eric Adams, a Democrat, has met with Homan and allowed ICE agents access to a prison. However, other sanctuary city leaders have not been as cooperative.
Homan stated that ICE agents have made arrests in Boston and Chicago, and he plans to return to Boston multiple times. Under the previous administration, over 100,000 deportations and 113,000 arrests of illegal immigrants were carried out.
Homan expressed satisfaction with the deportation numbers but emphasized the need for more action. He called on Congress to provide funding for the operation. ICE prioritizes the arrest and removal of criminal illegal aliens, with the majority of those deported having criminal records or pending charges.
Homan clarified that illegal aliens without criminal records are not exempt from potential removal. He advised those ordered to leave to comply with court orders and encouraged those present illegally to depart voluntarily to allow for a future opportunity to return legally.
