Graeme Dott, a former snooker world champion, has been charged with sexually abusing children. The 47-year-old is scheduled to appear in the High Court in Glasgow on June 11th. The charges involve historical sex offenses related to a girl and a boy.
Court documents allege that the abuse of the girl occurred between 1993 and 1996, starting when she was approximately ten years old. The abuse of the boy is alleged to have taken place between 2006 and 2010, beginning when the child was about seven.
Dott has been suspended from the sport. He was expected to participate in the qualifying rounds of this month's World Championship. He won the 2006 World Championship, defeating Peter Ebdon in the final. He also reached the finals in 2004 and 2010.
The World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) released a statement regarding the situation. The statement indicated that Dott has been suspended due to the ongoing court case. The WPBSA stated that it would be inappropriate to comment further while the legal proceedings are underway.
Dott's victory in the 2006 World Championship took place at the Crucible in Sheffield. He also reached the final in 2004, where he lost to Ronnie O'Sullivan, and in 2010, when he was defeated by Neil Robertson.
Dott became a professional in 1994 and has been a consistent presence on the World Snooker Tour. However, his ranking has declined this season, placing him outside the top 50 in the world.
