As she was brought before the court in chains and surrounded by law enforcement, she accused a specific officer of threatening her life, stating he said she “deserved to be shot for being transgender.” Leatham, who is one of five alleged members linked to a series of violent crimes, asserted that her treatment in the courtroom amounted to state-sponsored conversion therapy.

In a charged courtroom atmosphere, Leatham exclaimed, “If I am killed in police custody, it was murder!” This announcement created a tumultuous scene which led the judge to order her removal to an isolation area, where she could still participate via camera but could be muted if necessary.
