Far-Right Activist Seeks to Influence Trump Administration Personnel
Laura Loomer, a far-right activist, has engaged in discussions with Trump administration officials regarding the potential use of her opposition research firm to aid in the vetting of White House personnel. She recently recommended the firing of several National Security Council officials, demonstrating her active involvement in personnel matters.
Loomer, known for her conspiracy theories and close ties to Trump, established her research firm, Loomered Strategies, last month. The firm offers services such as opposition investigation, "executive level vetting," and rapid response capabilities. She presented her new venture to officials in the Presidential Personnel Office, seeking a contract to vet Trump administration staff and officials.
Loomer confirmed to Politico that she has spoken with officials about her firm, asserting that the Trump administration has a "clear deficiency" in its "vetting operations." She expressed her firm's willingness to serve the administration's vetting and research needs.
Earlier this month, the White House dismissed several members of the National Security Council (NSC) after Loomer reportedly voiced concerns about their loyalty to the president during an Oval Office meeting. She had compiled a list of individuals within the administration whom she believed were not fully aligned with the president's agenda. Following her meeting with the president, at least four NSC members were subsequently fired.
While Trump downplayed Loomer's influence on the decision, stating that personnel changes occur regularly, he acknowledged her as a "very good patriot."
Loomer has also targeted Colonel Earl Matthews, Trump's nominee for the Pentagon's top lawyer, using her "vetting" skills to publicly allege that Matthews harbors animosity towards Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. She warned that Hegseth was at risk of being "subverted and obstructed" by Matthews.
Despite her efforts, Loomer does not hold an official position within the Trump administration. She was considered for a role in Trump's campaign but did not secure a job due to her history of embracing far-right theories, making anti-Muslim comments, and generating controversy.
