China Denies Ukrainian Claims of Citizens Fighting for Russia
On Wednesday, China’s foreign ministry responded to allegations made by Ukraine regarding Chinese citizens fighting for Russia, labeling them as baseless. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had asserted that two Chinese nationals had been captured while battling with Russian troops, stating there were “many more” involved without providing any supportive evidence. In light of these claims, a spokesperson for the Chinese foreign ministry, Lin Jian, announced that Beijing was looking into the circumstances surrounding the two individuals in question.
Mr. Lin also rejected the notion that there are a significant number of Chinese citizens participating in the conflict on behalf of Russia. He reminded reporters that the Chinese government has advised its citizens against engaging in any form of armed conflict. During the news briefing, he reiterated that China's position regarding the Ukraine crisis is clear and has garnered recognition from the international community.
