Migrants Using CBP One App Face Immediate Deportation Under Trump Administration's New Policy
The Trump administration has recently terminated the parole protections for migrants who entered the United States using the CBP One app, a program that allowed nearly one million individuals to schedule entry appointments. These migrants had previously been allowed to pursue asylum and were given temporary work permits while they awaited the results of their applications.
Reports indicate that notifications have been sent to these migrants, informing them that their legal status is revoked and requiring them to leave the U.S. immediately. The warning from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) emphasized that failure to comply would result in enforcement actions leading to their removal from the country. The notification also encourages affected individuals to use the app to facilitate their self-deportation.
The CBP One app, which was operational since January 2023, enabled migrants to enter the U.S. at designated ports, but its use has changed under the current administration. Additionally, the Trump administration has decided to suspend various parole programs and has rescinded the extensions of Temporary Protected Status for certain nationalities, impacting over 600,000 Venezuelans among others.
This shift in policy comes amidst ongoing litigation regarding the previous administration’s attempts to end Temporary Protected Status. Under the Trump administration, the CBP One app was initially put on hold, and only its use for self-deportation remains active. Additionally, there have been changes to flight boarding policies for migrants, further tightening the migration process in the U.S.
