Rep. Jasmine Crockett Faces Censure Amidst Series of Questionable Remarks
Representative Jasmine Crockett, a Democrat from Texas and a member of the progressive "Squad," spoke at a historically Black church, stating that America needs strong immigration policies because "we done picking cotton." She made these remarks during the 125th-anniversary celebration of Grace Baptist Church in Connecticut. Her comments were part of a larger criticism of the Trump administration's approach to illegal immigration.
Crockett explained that she had to educate people about the contributions of immigrants, emphasizing that the audience was unlikely to want to work in agriculture. When met with a hesitant response, she responded, "You're not! You're not! We done picking cotton! We are. You can't pay us enough to find a plantation."
These recent comments are part of a series of controversial statements that have led to a potential censure in the House of Representatives. One instance involved her referring to Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who uses a wheelchair, as "Governor Hot Wheels."
Prior to that, Crockett had made other questionable remarks, including suggesting that Texas Senator Ted Cruz should be "knocked over the head." She also expressed a desire for Elon Musk to be "taken down" during a rally. Furthermore, she stated that Democrats should be "OK with punching" to regain momentum.
Additionally, comments criticizing the interracial marriage of Florida Congressman Byron Donalds have resurfaced. Crockett questioned whether Donalds understood history or if his views were influenced by his marriage.
A censure resolution against Crockett, introduced by Representative Randy Weber, is currently being considered by the House Committee on Ethics. Attorney General Pam Bondi has urged Crockett to apologize and denounce her rhetoric, citing the potential for violence following her statements.
