Max Verstappen triumphed in the Japanese Grand Prix held at the Suzuka Circuit, marking his first victory of the year and boosting his confidence after a tough start to the season. His win solidifies his position in the championship race as he finished 1.4 seconds ahead of Lando Norris, who is the current points leader for McLaren, and received a warm reception from the packed crowd of 115,000 fans.
Verstappen expressed his happiness after the race, noting that despite a challenging weekend, his team focused on improving the car, which was in top form during the race. This victory also marked Verstappen's 64th grand prix win and made him the first driver to claim four victories in a row at the Suzuka circuit.
Norris acknowledged Verstappen's flawless race, stating that while he pushed hard, it wasn't enough to catch up. Oscar Piastri, racing for McLaren as well, celebrated his 24th birthday by securing third place on the podium, while the race concluded without any significant incidents, showcasing a competitive yet clean performance.
Notably, all 20 drivers completed the 53-lap race without any interruptions from weather conditions or accidents, highlighting a well-organized event. Charles Leclerc from Ferrari finished in fourth place, followed by George Russell and Kimi Antonelli from Mercedes. Lewis Hamilton managed to recover to seventh place after starting on harder tires.
As the race unfolded, Verstappen initially faced gear-changing issues but quickly established a lead over Norris. Eventually, though Norris managed to cut the gap after pit stops, Verstappen regained control, while Piastri felt the pressure but acknowledged the importance of qualifying position at Suzuka in securing a strong finish.
