In anticipation of the Ram Navami festivities in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, local authorities have implemented security measures by deploying police forces and setting up CCTV cameras along the Yatra's route. This decision comes in response to the area's history of unrest during such celebrations, with officials committed to maintaining peace.
Deputy Commissioner Nancy Sahay highlighted that 145 CCTV cameras have been strategically placed to monitor the procession. She reassured the public that preparations have been thoroughly executed, and the event is being closely observed to ensure law and order are upheld.
Recent visuals captured the Ram Navami procession occurring in Hazaribagh, while police monitored crucial locations, including Jhanda Chawk and Jama Masjid. The two-day celebration coincides with the Dashmi, the tenth day of Navratri.
Earlier incidents have raised concerns, such as a conflict that arose on March 26 during a Mangla Julus procession, where disagreements between groups led to minor stone pelting. Fortunately, law enforcement was able to diffuse the situation swiftly. Another scuffle had occurred on February 26 regarding a sound system in the Ichak area, but the prompt intervention of authorities prevented further escalation. Currently, officials report a peaceful atmosphere.

It's a shame that they are going overkill to keep the public peaceful. Where is the opportunity for trust building?

Deployment of such a police setup doesn't make a community confident; how is this supposed to be conducive to the celebration?

Is this what it means to be safe? It is more about policing than about providing a safe environment.

Why CCTV cameras? Can't one just enjoy his/her event? There seems to be unnecessary restrictions.

I worry about the scope creep. How long does this surveillance last? Is this now the new normal for all festivals?
