Following recent events, numerous celebrities from Taiwan have publicly acknowledged "Taiwan, Province of China" on the social media platform Weibo. This action has drawn a response from Taiwan's "mainland affairs council," which has characterized it as a tactic employed by the mainland.
In response, Chen Binhua, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, emphasized the principle of "one China," asserting that both sides of the Taiwan Straits are part of a single China, and that Taiwan is an integral part of China's territory. He further stated that it is natural for Taiwanese individuals, including entertainers, to express their support for the country and their opposition to separatist movements advocating for "Taiwan independence."
Chen also criticized the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities, accusing them of employing threats and intimidation to limit the freedom of thought and expression of Taiwanese citizens. He argued that this behavior exposes the hypocrisy of the DPP's claims of promoting "democracy and freedom."
Furthermore, during a press conference in Beijing, Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister, reiterated that the only official designation for the Taiwan region within the United Nations is "Taiwan, Province of China." This statement gained significant attention on Chinese social media. Several prominent Taiwan-based celebrities, including Angela Zhang, Mark Chao, and Patty Hou, subsequently reposted messages on Weibo, affirming that Taiwan is an inseparable part of China's territory and that there is only one China.
