Astronauts of Shenzhou-19 Share Spring Festival Greetings from Tiangong

A recent video broadcasted from China's Tiangong space station features astronauts from the Shenzhou-19 mission as they convey their Spring Festival greetings. The three astronauts, currently orbiting Earth at an altitude of 400 kilometers, shared insights into their remarkable lives in space as they reach the halfway point of their mission. Commander Cai Xuzhe, who recently returned after nearly two years in space, expressed a sense of warmth and familiarity upon his return, noting that this Spring Festival marks his inaugural celebration in space. Previously, he spent six months in orbit during the Shenzhou-14 mission.

The Shenzhou-19 crew, who joined the space station on October 30, 2024, has completed various important tasks over the past three months. These include the transition with the Shenzhou-18 crew, standard maintenance of the station, and conducting two extravehicular activities (EVAs), commonly known as spacewalks. These EVAs are vital for the repair of equipment and the execution of scientific experiments outside the station. Cai highlighted the significance of thorough training, which included emergency pressure drills and medical rescue practices, stating that these preparations have greatly enhanced their efficiency and safety when addressing unpredictable situations.

Amid their rigorous schedule, the astronauts also find joy in mundane tasks, floating around the station as they carry out their duties. Wang, one of the crew members, enjoys writing space diaries and is especially fond of looking out the porthole to admire breathtaking views of Earth, which fill her with excitement and longing for her homeland. The team diligently follows a workout regimen to counteract the effects of weightlessness, utilizing specialized exercise equipment. This effort helps in maintaining their fitness levels, allowing them to stay strong and energized.

During the Spring Festival, the astronauts made sure to take a break, connect with their families, and capture beautiful images of both Earth and space. Each crew member recorded videos to remember these significant moments, emphasizing the importance of staying connected with loved ones. Wang Haoze, notable as China's first female space engineer in the space station, also voiced her pride in the nation's space accomplishments, admiring the advanced systems of their extraterrestrial home.
