The BRICS Working Group has been engaged in a series of meetings dedicated to exploring sustainable transport solutions and enhancing air connectivity among its member nations. The primary objective of these discussions is to establish consensus on key priorities that will be presented at the upcoming BRICS Summit scheduled for July. This information originates from the official website of the Brazilian Government.
The initial technical meeting centered on sustainability initiatives currently being implemented by the Brazilian government across various logistics sectors. Representatives from the Brazilian Ministry of Ports and Airports presented proposals aimed at fostering sustainable and resilient transport infrastructure, with a particular emphasis on urban mobility.
Within the aviation sector, participants addressed the challenges associated with reducing emissions and implementing clean energy policies. Technical experts are actively working to expand the number of flights connecting the member countries, thereby improving overall connectivity.
Discussions also encompassed the decarbonization of ports and maritime transport. This included the exploration of clean, low-carbon fuels, aligning with the International Maritime Organization's goals for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The Brazilian delegation highlighted the significance of direct energy supply from ports to ships.
This initial technical meeting of the BRICS Working Group on Transport, chaired by Brazil, commenced in January of this year. Two additional meetings are planned for 2025, in April and May. Furthermore, a ministerial meeting will be held in Brasilia in May to present the outcomes achieved by the working group.

Two more meetings in 2025? This process moves at a snail's pace. We need action now, not years from now.
