China Responds Strongly to US Sanctions on Officials from Hong Kong and Mainland China

Following the imposition of sanctions by the United States on six officials from both the Chinese government and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), China has reacted with fierce condemnation. A spokesperson from the Commissioner's Office of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in Hong Kong declared these sanctions to be unjust and described the US report as filled with inaccuracies and falsehoods, aimed at undermining the One Country, Two Systems principle while mischaracterizing Hong Kong's legal and democratic institutions. They emphasized that such actions represent a gross interference in Hong Kong's internal matters as well as a violation of international law and norms.

The Chinese Embassy in the US also criticized the sanctions and the US report, calling it repetitive in its attacks on Hong Kong's democratic practices and rule of law. The embassy urged the US to acknowledge the truth, refrain from disrupting Hong Kong's affairs, and halt its negative narrative around the region's governance. They insisted that China would respond decisively to these punitive actions.

Furthermore, the spokesperson highlighted that Hong Kong is experiencing a new phase of development, characterized by increasing stability and impending prosperity. Residents are enjoying enhanced legal protections, and improvements in the business environment are leading to positive economic growth, creating an encouraging outlook for the future. Additionally, a recent survey conducted by the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong indicated that foreign businesses are growing more optimistic about the region's business climate and legal framework.
