On Monday, a representative from China's Foreign Ministry expressed concerns over Japan's recent move to permit the listing of "Taiwan" as a place of origin on family registries. Currently, residents from Taiwan are classified as Chinese residents, and the change allows for regional listings, including Taiwan and Palestine, contrary to Japan's official stance of not recognizing Taiwan as a separate nation.
The spokesperson, Guo Jiakun, emphasized that Taiwan is an inseparable part of China's territory and that the matter is strictly an internal issue, free from external interference. In light of Japan's colonial history regarding Taiwan, Guo urged the country to be more careful with its statements and actions, stressing the importance of adhering to the one-China principle and existing China-Japan political agreements. Guo reiterated that any changes in Japan's approach should not send conflicting signals concerning the Taiwan issue.
