China's "Artificial Sun" Achieves Record Temperatures in Nuclear Fusion Breakthrough

The China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) has made a remarkable announcement regarding its advanced nuclear fusion device, known as China Circulation-3. This sophisticated "artificial sun" has achieved unprecedented temperatures of over 100 million degrees Celsius for both atomic nuclei and electrons. Such a feat represents a noteworthy improvement in performance metrics and signifies a major breakthrough in China's ongoing efforts in controlled nuclear fusion technology, as reported by CCTV News.

The China Circulation-3 is a large-scale controlled nuclear fusion facility that has been entirely developed by China. Its method of generating energy mimics the natural processes of the sun, hence its nickname as an artificial sun. Recent experimental results reveal that this device has reached a nuclear temperature of 117 million degrees Celsius and an electron temperature of 160 million degrees Celsius for the first time.

As Zhong Wulü, the chief designer of China Circulation-3 at CNNC, explained, this experiment has achieved a notable milestone by surpassing the "dual 100 million degrees" threshold, thereby greatly enhancing overall performance. This advancement indicates that China is now entering the critical burning plasma experiment phase in nuclear fusion research. The newly implemented self-developed systems for heating, control, and diagnostics have also reportedly met world-leading technical standards, setting multiple records in the field of nuclear fusion research within China.

Experts observe that the fusion reactions produced by this artificial sun are capable of generating vast amounts of energy while utilizing abundant fusion resources and yielding clean, safe byproducts. This positions controlled nuclear fusion as an ideal energy source for humanity's future. As researchers continue to upgrade the capabilities of China Circulation-3, they aim to gather essential core data required for advancing controlled nuclear fusion reactions.
