On Friday, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Mao Ning, addressed reports concerning the appointment of Iwasaki Shigeru, a former chief of the Joint Staff of Japan's Self-Defense Forces, as a consultant by Taiwan's "Legislative Yuan." Her response focused on China's stance regarding Taiwan.
Mao Ning reiterated that Taiwan is an integral part of China and that the Taiwan question is an internal matter, free from external interference. She emphasized that the one-China principle forms the basis of the political relationship between China and Japan.
The spokesperson also highlighted the significance of this year, marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. She stated that Japan has historical responsibilities to the Chinese people concerning the Taiwan question and should exercise caution, upholding its commitment to the one-China principle through tangible actions.
Furthermore, Mao Ning mentioned that China had lodged protests with the Japanese side. She concluded by stating that the separatist actions of the DPP authorities, supported by foreign entities, are destined to fail.

Good on China for lodging protests. Japan should not be meddling in China's internal affairs like Taiwan.

China is within its rights to remind Japan of the historical context and remind them of their responsibilities.
