Two members of the British Parliament from the Labour Party were detained by Israeli authorities and denied entry as part of a parliamentary delegation, according to a statement from the UK foreign secretary. The Israeli immigration ministry claimed that MPs Yuan Yang and Abtisam Mohamed were deported upon arrival because they were believed to be planning to document the actions of security forces and promote anti-Israel sentiments.
British Foreign Minister David Lammy expressed that the treatment of the detained politicians is "unacceptable" and a matter of deep concern. He communicated to Israeli officials that such actions do not align with the treatment British parliamentarians deserve, while assuring support for both MPs, who had traveled to Israel from Luton. The UK government is focused on mediating a return to ceasefire and engaging in negotiations aimed at reducing violence, releasing hostages, and ultimately resolving the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
Since the end of a brief truce last month, Israel's military actions have intensified, particularly aimed at reclaiming territory in Gaza as a tactic to compel militants to release hostages. According to the Gaza health ministry, the renewed bombings have resulted in 1,249 fatalities, contributing to an alarming overall death toll of 50,609 since the conflict began.
