A bull rider from Texas, Dylan Grant, aged 24, died during a rodeo event. The Pro Rodeo Cowboys Association announced his passing in a statement released on Friday.
The incident occurred on Thursday at the Wharton County Youth Fair Xtreme Bulls event in Wharton, Texas. Grant was participating in the second round when he was bucked off the bull. Reports indicate the bull stepped on Grant's neck shortly after. Despite the injury, Grant was able to move away from the bull and meet paramedics.
Medics provided immediate care and transported him by ambulance to a helicopter, which then took him to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center in Houston. Sadly, Grant succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Approximately 2,500 spectators were present at the event.
Robert Blue Jeanes, the event's announcer, expressed shock and sadness at Grant's death. He mentioned that Grant's initial movement and the paramedics' swift response had given a sense of hope. Cyd Davidson, a family friend, described Grant as a kind and compassionate individual who was very family-oriented.
Grant, a graduate of the University of Wyoming, was a native of the Cowboy State. A university spokesman expressed condolences on behalf of the institution. Grant obtained his license to compete in PRCA events in 2018 and participated in various PRORODEO and Xtreme Bulls events. He had earned $3,760 this year and a total of $15,710 during his career. In 2021, Grant won a bull riding championship.
