Supporters of Karmelo Anthony, the teenager charged with murder in the stabbing death of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf in Frisco, Texas, have established a GoFundMe page. The incident occurred this week.
The altercation between Metcalf and Anthony took place at a track meet on Wednesday. The victim was accompanied by his twin brother at the event. The crowdfunding page alleges that Anthony was attacked by the brothers. It also claims that at least one of the brothers knew Anthony.
The GoFundMe page describes Anthony as a "respectful, well-mannered young man" with "multiple college offers" and a "4.0 student." It emphasizes his lack of a criminal record and his upbringing in a loving home. The page also mentions two anonymous donors who contributed $1,000 each. The page addresses photos circulating online that appear to show Anthony with a firearm, which is described as an Airsoft gun.
Meanwhile, Anthony's lawyer, Deric Walpole, stated that his client maintains he acted in self-defense. Walpole is currently gathering information and has no reason to disbelieve his client's account. He is also seeking to reduce Anthony's $1 million bond.
According to an email from the principal, Metcalf was an 11th grader at Memorial High School. Anthony is enrolled at Frisco Centennial High School. It is not yet clear if they knew each other before the incident. Metcalf was a junior and participated in track and field and football. His father, Jeff Metcalf, stated that Austin's twin brother was present during the attack, which occurred after Austin confronted Anthony, who was sitting in his seat.
Following the stabbing, Metcalf's brother, Hunter, held him as he died. Anthony has maintained that he was acting in self-defense. Hunter Metcalf recounted the events, describing his attempts to help his brother. Jeff Metcalf shared that Hunter witnessed his brother's death.
Jeff Metcalf expressed his grief, stating that his son had a promising future. He also acknowledged the impact of the tragedy on Anthony's family. He expressed sympathy for them while also expressing his pain and disbelief. Despite his pain, Metcalf stated that he has already forgiven Anthony.

The claims that he was attacked first sound fishy. This is just an excuse to get away with murder.

How can anyone trust a lawyer who is willing to defend someone accused of such a violent act?

His 'good student' status doesn't absolve him of his actions. This is a serious crime!

Self-defense or not, there are consequences for taking a life. This isn't something we can trivialize.
