There is currently an XL bully on the loose after an armed police response that occurred due to a firearms incident resulting in three arrests in Sheffield. The South Yorkshire Police received reports of gunfire near Daniel Hill Street in the Hillfoot area shortly after 10 pm on Thursday, and as officers arrived, a vehicle escaped the scene.
Upon reaching the location, armed officers encountered the XL bully and discharged their firearms towards the animal, which subsequently fled the area. The current status of the dog remains unclear. Chief Superintendent Jamie Henderson emphasized the importance of community awareness and requested that anyone who sees the dog should not approach it due to its potential for aggression.
On the same day, armed officers responded to another incident involving a motorbike colliding with a silver VW Golf at Liberty Drive around 3:10 am on Friday. During this incident, shots were reportedly fired at an individual, leading to damage of other parked cars in the vicinity. Officers found evidence suggesting that both gunfire incidents are connected.
Following these occurrences, a 37-year-old man was arrested under suspicion of attempted murder, while a 39-year-old woman was taken into custody for possessing a firearm. Additionally, a 36-year-old man, who was riding the motorcycle, faces charges of motor vehicle theft. All three suspects are currently being held for further investigations.
Mr. Henderson has stated that police resources are dedicated to unraveling the details surrounding these incidents but has called on the public for assistance. With new regulations regarding XL bullies having been enacted in February 2024, which makes ownership without an exemption illegal, the police have also received a significant number of exemption applications. Authorities are encouraging anyone with information or sightings of the XL bully to reach out via their online platform or by calling 101, referencing incident number 948 from April 3, 2025.

How can we trust the police after hearing this story? What will actually happen to the perpetrators?

The criminals were found! That is wonderful work from the police. Hopefully, they give good examples on what to do with an XL Bully.

The police are making a mistake by shooting at the dog. They should be getting a professional.

Good that the police are warning the public about the dog and giving clear instructions.

This is a very dangerous situation. The XL Bully should be caught before more people are harmed.

The exemption process for XL bullies is still new. But the police are doing their best!
