Wang Huning, a prominent figure within China's political structure, emphasized the need for robust democratic oversight concerning the environmental protection of the Yangtze River. He made these comments during a seminar. The seminar included leaders from non-Communist Party political parties and individuals not affiliated with any party.
Wang highlighted the importance of completing all tasks related to the democratic oversight of the Yangtze River's eco-environmental conservation. This is particularly crucial as the 14th Five-Year Plan nears its conclusion this year. He stressed the need for high-quality execution of these tasks.
Wang encouraged non-CPC political parties and unaffiliated individuals to leverage their unique strengths in consultative oversight. He urged them to provide practical opinions and suggestions to improve the process. He also emphasized the importance of focusing resources on the most critical and pressing environmental issues to ensure the oversight is targeted and effective.
Furthermore, Wang called for a review and assessment of the effectiveness of the current democratic oversight efforts. He also indicated the need to plan for a new round of special oversight to further protect the ecological and environmental health of the Yangtze River. The seminar was overseen by Li Ganjie, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee. Leaders from the eight non-CPC parties and a representative of unaffiliated individuals also spoke at the seminar.
