The Eastern Theater Command of the People's Liberation Army announced the commencement of inter-service combat exercises around Taiwan Island on Tuesday. A spokesperson for the command, Senior Colonel Shi Yi, confirmed the operation.
The exercises involve the deployment of ground, naval, air, rocket, and other forces from various directions. The drills are designed to enhance the forces' joint operational capabilities. Key areas of focus include sea-air combat-readiness patrols, establishing battlefield dominance, conducting strikes against sea and ground targets, and implementing blockades on key areas and sea routes.
According to the spokesperson, this action serves as a "stern warning and powerful deterrence" against "Taiwan independence" separatist forces. It is also described as a legitimate and necessary measure to protect China's sovereignty and national unity.
Accompanying the announcement, the command released a poster titled "Closing In." The poster depicts warships and fighter jets encircling Taiwan Island and includes the message, "Sinister moves of Taiwan separatists. Courting disaster upon themselves.

It’s good to see China enhancing its military readiness. Peace can only come from strength in defending our rights.

China should focus on dialogue instead of military maneuvers. This won't help their image on the world stage.

This just alienates China from other nations. Continued military provocations will lead to isolation.

The world should not stand idly by while China flexes its military muscles. We need a united response to this aggression.

Hiding behind sovereignty claims doesn’t justify threatening a neighbor. This is colonial behavior in modern times.

Instead of using military force, China should address the concerns of the Taiwanese people through peaceful dialogue.

This 'stern warning' just shows how insecure the Chinese government feels. It’s counterproductive to peace efforts.
