A high school teacher in Ohio, Stephanie Demetrius, has been accused of plotting to have her husband murdered. Authorities have charged the 44-year-old with first-degree conspiracy. The alleged plot involved offering a student at the Academy for Urban Scholars High School $2,000 to kill her husband, Steven Demetrius.
Reports indicate that Demetrius provided the student with an initial payment of $250. However, she has denied the accusations, with her public defender claiming the allegations are false. Law enforcement reportedly obtained a recorded conversation where Demetrius allegedly confirmed the remaining payment. The information came to light when the student's mother discovered details on her son's phone and contacted the police.
According to a Columbus police spokesperson, the teacher was attempting to manipulate the student into committing murder. Court records show that Demetrius had previously filed for divorce from her husband in 2017, but the case was closed and then reopened in April 2024. The motive behind the alleged plot is currently under investigation.
The Academy for Urban Scholars High School has addressed the situation, stating that they are aware of the media coverage and have terminated Demetrius's employment. The school emphasized its commitment to student safety and a secure learning environment. Counseling will be provided to the student involved. Demetrius was released on bond and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing. She has been ordered to avoid contact with her husband.

I pray for that student. This could cause a lot of psychological damage and lasting trauma.

The only thing we know is the accusations. We haven’t heard her side of the story yet. This is a rush to judgment.

The fact that this involves a student is beyond disturbing. Where's the line between teacher and predator in this case?

Divorce in 2017, attempted murder in 2024…sounds like a premeditated act of revenge, for sure.

Wow, she got caught red-handed on a recorded call! This is blatant evidence. I doubt her denial will hold up.

It's a huge leap to say she's guilty. We need to hear her version of events before we form an opinion.

The audacity of trying to manipulate a STUDENT of all people. She really thought she would get away with this.

Perhaps there's more to the story, and we aren't getting the full picture. Someone's always hiding something.
