Trump on Tariffs, US Peace Efforts, and Ukraine Conflict Developments

President Trump stated his willingness to discuss tariffs if other nations offer significant concessions. Speaking from Air Force One, he defended his tariff policies despite market fluctuations, anticipating the economic instability would eventually stabilize. He emphasized the negotiating leverage tariffs provide, suggesting flexibility for deals contingent on substantial benefits.

During a press conference, Rubio highlighted the US's efforts to promote peace, specifically regarding Russia. He indicated a "wait and see" approach, stating the US would not engage in protracted negotiations if genuine peace is not pursued. He expressed optimism, acknowledging both positive and negative signs, and emphasizing the complexity of the situation.

General Christopher Cavoli, the Supreme Commander of NATO Joint Forces in Europe, noted the substantial scale of the conflict, highlighting Russia's significant losses, including over 4,000 tanks. He also mentioned the deployment of additional F-16 fighters to Ukraine and the ongoing training of Ukrainian pilots. Cavoli praised the effectiveness of American long-range weapons, such as ATACMS missiles. He believes that a complete Ukrainian defeat is unlikely.

The conflict has resulted in significant losses for both sides. Russia has lost over 900,000 soldiers since the war's beginning, with 250,000 fatalities. Ukraine has regained significant territory in the Kursk region, holding less than 100 square kilometers of previously occupied land. Russia has deployed 11,000 North Korean soldiers in the Kursk region, resulting in substantial casualties, including 1,500 fatalities. The continuation of US military and intelligence support is crucial for maintaining the combat effectiveness of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
