A Global Platform for Sports and Cultural Exchange
The Village Super League (Cun Chao) has taken the world by storm since its debut in May 2023. This unique grassroots soccer league, held in Rongjiang county, Guizhou province, China, has not only sparked a domestic frenzy but also attracted widespread international attention.
Cun Chao's "World Cup," expected to kick off in 2028, will be open to amateur teams from across the globe. This non-profit event, organized by villagers, aims to foster a global platform for sports and cultural exchanges. Admission will be free, as it has been for past Cun Chao matches.
The league has already welcomed over 1,160 foreign players from 28 teams representing more than 50 countries. Soccer stars like Brazilian legend Kaka have also visited Rongjiang. Cun Chao continues to expand its international partnerships, collaborating with the English Premier League and the Incheon Sports Council in South Korea.
Cun Chao's globalization efforts include agreements with overseas grassroots sports organizations, building platforms like the Belt and Road Cun Chao alliance, and organizing non-profit soccer challenges with international stars. To maintain its uniqueness, Cun Chao will merge Chinese intangible cultural heritage and ethnic elements, allowing participants to experience diverse Chinese rural culture.
Beyond sports, Cun Chao has a significant impact on the local economy. Villagers sell local snacks at events, earning significant income. The league also attracts tourists, boosting tourism revenue and raising Guizhou's profile as a world-class tourism destination.
Cun Chao's success challenges international stereotypes about Chinese villages and demonstrates the cultural confidence and governance wisdom of rural China. It also pioneers a new paradigm for people-to-people diplomacy and provides an example for developing countries in rural vitalization.
Cun Chao has transcended the realm of sports, becoming a bridge for dialogue between Chinese civilization and the world. Through its vibrant stories and co-created wisdom, it showcases the charm and vitality of rural China to the world.

This feels like a top-down project, not something driven by the needs and interests of villagers.

This feels like a marketing strategy to sell a certain image of China, not a genuine cultural exchange.

Focusing on globalization seems to contradict the idea of preserving local traditions and cultural heritage.

Free admission? Sounds like a recipe for chaos and overcrowding. How will they manage the influx of people?
