King Charles III Experiences Side Effects from Cancer Treatment

Buckingham Palace announced on Thursday, March 27th, that King Charles III was forced to cancel his remaining appointments for the day and the following Friday due to experiencing "side effects" from his ongoing cancer treatment.

The statement from the Palace detailed that the King underwent scheduled medical treatment for his cancer earlier that morning and subsequently experienced temporary side effects that necessitated a brief period of observation at the hospital. As a precautionary measure, based on medical advice, the King's engagements for Friday were also rescheduled.

This news comes after King Charles III publicly announced his cancer diagnosis in February 2024, marking a departure from the Palace's previous practice of maintaining silence on personal health matters. While the specific type of cancer remains undisclosed, the Palace confirmed that his treatment would continue into 2025.

The King expressed his apologies to those inconvenienced or disappointed by the cancellations, which included receiving credentials from ambassadors of three different countries on Thursday and four planned engagements in Birmingham on Friday.

Despite this setback, King Charles III's scheduled trip to Italy in early April is expected to proceed as planned. Additionally, a previously postponed meeting with Pope Francis at the Vatican, initially scheduled for the start of the April trip, remains without a confirmed new date.

It's worth noting that King Charles III returned to work within two and a half months of his cancer diagnosis and gradually resumed his duties throughout the remainder of 2024, including undertaking several foreign trips.

Furthermore, his daughter-in-law, Catherine, Princess of Wales, who is married to the King's eldest son Prince William, announced in January that she was in remission after also being diagnosed with cancer in the previous year.
