Nippon Steel Corporation has announced a delay in its planned acquisition of United States Steel Corporation. The Japanese company now aims to complete the deal by the end of June, pushing back its original March target. This delay is due to ongoing challenges in securing approval from the U.S. government.
Nippon Steel is currently challenging former President Joe Biden's decision to block the deal through a lawsuit. The company maintains that the acquisition "is still being pursued in collaboration with U.S. Steel."
Since President Donald Trump replaced Biden in January, Nippon Steel has continued discussions with the U.S. government regarding the takeover plan. President Imai of Nippon Steel expressed hope that the U.S. government will share the company's view that the deal will strengthen the American steel and manufacturing industries through investment.

Nippon Steel should focus on fixing its own problems before trying to buy U.S. Steel.
