Former Jungle Pocket Member Shinji Saito Indicted for Sexual Assault
Shinji Saito, a former member of the popular Japanese comedy trio Jungle Pocket, was indicted on March 26 for alleged penetrative sexual assault and indecent acts without consent. The accusations stem from an incident that occurred last July while Saito and the victim, a woman in her 20s, were in a staff vehicle on location for a TV shoot in Tokyo's Shinjuku Ward.
According to the indictment, Saito allegedly forced himself on the woman, despite her clear resistance. The incident has sent shockwaves through the Japanese entertainment industry, with many expressing outrage and disappointment towards Saito's alleged actions.
The Metropolitan Police Department had been investigating the case since last summer, and in October 2024, they sent their findings to prosecutors. Following a thorough review of the evidence, prosecutors decided to indict Saito on the aforementioned charges.
Saito's former agency, Yoshimoto Kogyo Co., one of the largest talent agencies in Japan, swiftly responded to the allegations. In September 2024, they announced the suspension of Saito's activities, effectively putting his career on hold. Later, in light of the indictment, the agency terminated his contract, signaling a complete severing of ties with the disgraced comedian.
The indictment of Shinji Saito marks a significant development in this case. While Saito is presumed innocent until proven guilty, the severity of the charges against him could have serious consequences for his future. The trial is expected to begin in the coming months, and the public will be closely watching as the legal proceedings unfold.

Saito's career is over. And rightfully so. He needs to be held accountable for his actions.
