Toyota Delays EV Battery Factory Construction in Japan
Toyota Motor Corporation has decided to postpone the construction of its electric vehicle (EV) battery factory in southwestern Japan. This decision comes amidst a slowdown in global demand for EVs.
The factory, originally planned for construction in Fukuoka Prefecture this year, has been pushed back to an undetermined date. Toyota President Koji Sato informed Fukuoka Governor Seitaro Hattori of the change in plans during a meeting on Tuesday.
Toyota and its subsidiary, Toyota Battery Co., had previously aimed to begin production of batteries at the Kanda factory in 2028. These batteries were intended for a next-generation EV model under the Lexus brand.
Toyota has set a target of selling 1.5 million EVs by 2026, but it remains uncertain whether this goal can be achieved given the current market conditions.

I'm willing to wait a little longer for a Toyota EV if it means it will be a high-quality product.

This delay just proves that Toyota is more interested in protecting its gas-guzzling profits than in embracing a sustainable future. 🤬

Toyota is letting their customers down by delaying this important project.

While it's disappointing, it's understandable that Toyota is delaying the factory given the current economic uncertainty.

This is bad news for the environment and bad news for consumers who are looking for affordable EVs.

I'm starting to think Toyota doesn't really want to make EVs at all. 😒

I'm glad Toyota is taking the time to do its due diligence before investing in such a large project.
