Yellow Sand to Blanket Japan, Affecting Visibility and Health
A blanket of yellow sand is expected to engulf a large swathe of Japan from north to west on March 25th and 26th, causing reduced visibility and potential health concerns. The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) warns of visibility dropping below 5 kilometers in some areas, posing a risk to outdoor activities and traffic.
The JMA attributes this phenomenon to prevailing westerly winds carrying dust from deserts in China. Yellow sand was already observed in Osaka on the morning of March 25th, with visibility deteriorating primarily in western Japan. The affected area is expected to expand, potentially reaching from Kyushu to Tohoku.
The JMA advises caution when airing laundry outdoors and warns of potential traffic disruptions due to reduced visibility. Individuals with respiratory issues should take necessary precautions to minimize exposure to the dust.
