The Japanese government has granted permission for an injured Palestinian woman from Gaza to receive medical treatment in Tokyo. This marks the first instance of such assistance since the conflict between Hamas and Israel erupted in October 2023.
The Foreign Ministry announced on March 26 that a second Palestinian woman is also expected to arrive soon for treatment at the Self-Defense Forces Central Hospital in the capital. Both women were previously hospitalized in Egypt.
This decision aligns with requests from the World Health Organization and actions taken by several Group of Seven member nations to provide medical care to injured Gazans. Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba confirmed in a Diet session in February that efforts were underway to arrange medical treatment for Palestinians in Japan.
It is important to note that this initiative does not signify broader acceptance of Palestinian refugees. Officials have clarified that the two women will not be offered permanent residency and will return to Gaza after their recovery.
The Japanese government has also extended medical treatment in Japan to injured Ukrainian soldiers following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

So glad to see Japan offering humanitarian assistance to Palestinians! They deserve access to healthcare just like anyone else.

This is a great example of how humanitarian aid can make a real difference in people's lives.

Instead of focusing on individual cases, we should be advocating for a long-term peace agreement.

This feels like we're picking sides instead of promoting peace and neutrality.

Let's hope this decision paves the way for more peaceful solutions to the conflict.
