Chaos at New Delhi Railway Station as Major Trains Delayed
A large number of passengers faced inconvenience at New Delhi Railway Station on Sunday evening due to the delay of several major trains. This led to heavy congestion on platforms 12 and 13, causing a chaotic situation.
The delayed trains included Shiv Ganga Express, Swatantrata Senani Express, Jammu Rajdhani Express, Lucknow Mail, and Magadh Express. The Shiv Ganga Express, scheduled to depart at 8:05 PM, finally left at 9:20 PM. The Swatantrata Senani Express, scheduled for 9:15 PM, was already occupying the platform, further adding to the congestion. The Jammu Rajdhani Express (scheduled for 9:25 PM) and Lucknow Mail (scheduled for 10:00 PM) were also running late. The Magadh Express, scheduled for 9:05 PM, had not even been assigned a platform.
The Delhi Police issued a statement acknowledging the heavy passenger congestion and the potential for a stampede-like situation. They implemented crowd control measures to prevent any untoward incidents. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The Northern Railway attributed the chaos to the extra rush on Sundays, especially during peak evening hours. CPRO Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay stated that they had implemented crowd control measures and were closely monitoring the situation through CCTV cameras. He assured that the situation was under control.
The Ministry of Railways also issued a statement clarifying that there was no actual stampede, but a heavy rush due to the delayed trains. They confirmed that the protocol of taking unreserved passengers through a holding area was being implemented.
Senior officials, including the Senior Commandant RPF and Station Director NDLS, were present at the station to manage the situation effectively.

This is dangerous! A stampede could have easily happened with all those people crammed onto the platforms.
