China's Dominance

Meddling in Taiwan Issue Will Invite Trouble and Undermine Regional Stability

China Warns Japan Against Meddling in Taiwan Issue

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi issued a stern warning to Japan, urging the country to refrain from interfering in the Taiwan issue. He emphasized that any attempt to stir trouble in the name of Taiwan would ultimately backfire on Japan itself.

Wang's remarks came during a press conference held on the sidelines of the third session of the 14th National People's Congress in Beijing. He addressed a question from Kyodo News regarding China-Japan relations.

The Foreign Minister highlighted the historical significance of Taiwan's return to China, emphasizing that the one-China principle forms the bedrock of China-Japan relations. He expressed concern over certain individuals in Japan who refuse to acknowledge this history and engage in clandestine collaboration with Taiwan secessionists.

Wang cautioned these individuals that their actions could have detrimental consequences for Japan. He stressed that instead of viewing Taiwan's contingencies as their own, they should recognize that meddling in the Taiwan issue would only invite trouble for their own country.

The Foreign Minister acknowledged the positive strides made in China-Japan relations following the November 2024 consensus reached by the leaders of both nations. This consensus aimed to comprehensively advance strategic and mutually beneficial ties, fostering constructive and stable relations in line with the spirit of existing bilateral agreements.

Wang commended the joint efforts of both sides in improving and developing bilateral relations. He welcomed the strengthening of exchanges across various sectors, the deepening of mutually beneficial cooperation, and the enhancement of public sentiment – all of which align with the long-term interests of both nations.

Marking the 80th anniversary of China's victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Wang emphasized the importance of remembering history to shape a better future. He underscored the responsibility of Japan to guard against the resurgence of militarism, a sentiment shared by the Chinese and Asian people.

Wang reminded Japan of its pacifist constitution and the path of peaceful development it has pledged to uphold. He urged Japan to face the test of conscience and integrity by adhering to these principles.

Drawing upon the centuries-long history of China-Japan exchanges, Wang emphasized that China has consistently been a force for peace and a trustworthy neighbor. He pointed out that China has always brought opportunities to Japan, never threats, throughout their long history.

Concluding his remarks, Wang challenged Japan's intellectuals to ponder the true meaning of neighborliness and their place in history amidst the current global transformations. He urged them to seek wise counsel and choose the right path forward.

The claim that China has always been a force for peace in the region is demonstrably false. China has a long history of conflict and expansionism.

China's historical and cultural ties with Japan are deep and enduring. Both countries should continue to build upon these ties and promote mutual understanding.

Instead of lecturing Japan about its past, China should focus on addressing its own current problems, including its ongoing persecution of Uyghurs and Tibetans.
