China Responds to US Defense Secretary's Remarks on Military Buildup
In response to US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's statement that the US doesn't want war with China but will rebuild its military under President Donald Trump's leadership to prepare for war, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian expressed strong disapproval.
Lin Jian accused the US official of deliberately inciting ideological confrontation and hyping up the "China threat" narrative. He urged the US to abandon its hegemonic mentality and stop viewing China-US relations through a Cold War lens. He also warned against using the guise of strategic competition to contain and suppress China.
"Whether it's a tariff war or a trade war, whether it's a cold war or a hot war, they should not be fought and cannot be won."
This statement highlights China's commitment to peaceful coexistence and its opposition to any form of conflict with the United States.
