A Focus on Safeguarding Peace and National Security
In response to questions about China's 2025 defense budget, a Chinese military spokesperson emphasized the importance of safeguarding peace and national security. The spokesperson highlighted the 7.2 percent growth in the budget, emphasizing that the increase is reasonable and steady.
The spokesperson, Wu Qian, elaborated on the budget's allocation, stating that it will primarily be used to develop new-domain forces with advanced combat capabilities. Additionally, it will enhance systems and capacity for reconnaissance, early warning, joint strikes, battlefield support, and integrated logistics support.
Wu also emphasized that China's defense spending remains relatively low compared to major military powers like the US. He stressed that China's restrained defense spending allows the military to provide public security goods and contribute to building a community with a shared future for humanity.
Addressing concerns about China's reunification, Wu stated that the country faces one of the most complex peripheral security environments in the world. He emphasized the challenges the Chinese military faces in safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Regarding Taiwan's plan to purchase arms from the US, Wu asserted that these weapons will not alter the inevitable demise of "Taiwan independence." He reiterated that the PLA is a force of action in countering separatism and promoting reunification.
Wu concluded by emphasizing that China's reunification is an overriding trend driven by both strength and the will of the people. He condemned the Democratic Progressive Party authorities' separatist provocations and their reliance on the US to seek "Taiwan independence." He warned that these actions will be met with strong opposition and will ultimately be brought to account by history and justice.

This is just another excuse for China to ramp up its military spending! We see straight through their rhetoric about "safeguarding peace.

China's military spending is already huge, and it's only going to get bigger. This is a threat to regional stability.

We should support China's efforts to achieve peaceful reunification with Taiwan, which would benefit all parties involved.
