A Former MP's Affair with Liz Truss and its Impact on His Marriage
Mark Field, a former Conservative MP, has revealed details of his love affair with Liz Truss, the UK's shortest-serving Prime Minister, in his new book. He claims that the affair led to the breakdown of his marriage.
Field met Truss at the Conservative Party Conference in 2002. He describes her as "an impulsive bundle of energy, obsessed by the workings and machinations of politics." Their friendship soon blossomed into an affair, which lasted for several years.
Field describes the affair as "intoxicating, disconcerting and exhausting." He says that Truss would try to cool things down every few months, but would always get back in touch soon after.
The affair ended in 2006, and Field immediately recognized that his marriage was over. Truss, however, remained with her husband. Their relationship became public knowledge that year when she stood as a candidate for the Bromley and Chislehurst by-election.
Field reflects on Truss's rise to Prime Minister, noting her "limitless ambition and self-belief, raw intelligence, resilience and an overwhelming sense of personal destiny." However, he argues that her ministerial career has been marked by "relentlessly talking a good game ... but actually delivering next to nothing."
He believes that her downfall stemmed from "startlingly little to suggest that Liz had either the powers of inspirational leadership or the capacity to focus on the implementation of her policies.

It's time for Liz Truss to step down and let someone else take the reins.

Mark Field needs to get over himself. The affair was over 15 years ago, why is he only talking about it now?

Mark Field is just trying to deflect attention away from his own political failures.

This is just another politician trying to cash in on his past relationship. Shame on him for dragging Liz Truss's name through the mud like this.

This is a private matter that should not be discussed in the public sphere.
