Collaboration for Sustainable Development and Community Well-being

A Gathering for Collaboration and Progress

The Endowment and Society Conference, held under the patronage of Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, concluded after two days of insightful discussions and activities. The event, organized by the General Authority of Islamic Affairs, Endowments and Zakat, brought together prominent figures and experts in the field of endowments to explore its role in fostering social development and community well-being.

In his address, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, emphasized the alignment of the conference theme with the "Year of the Community" initiative. He highlighted the importance of collaboration between individuals and institutions in driving sustainable development and promoting responsibility. He also acknowledged the presence of guests of the UAE President, reflecting the shared vision of unity and collaboration.

Sheikh Nahyan further commended the "Father's Endowment" initiative launched by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, as an embodiment of Islamic teachings and honoring parents. He praised the UAE's exemplary role in the field of endowments and charitable work, a legacy built upon the principles of humanitarian giving and social solidarity established by the Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Shaikh Abdullah bin Bayyah, Chairman of the UAE Council for Fatwa and Head of the Abu Dhabi Forum for Peace, emphasized the significance of endowments in strengthening societal cooperation and caring for the needy. He described endowments as a reserve for future generations and an ongoing source of charity for donors, ensuring sustainable benefits for the community.

Dr. Omar Habtoor Al Darei, Chairman of the General Authority of Islamic Affairs, Endowments and Zakat, affirmed the purpose of endowments in serving as a lifeline for society, fulfilling the needs of all its members regardless of their religious affiliation.

The conference also featured an accompanying Endowment Exhibition showcasing the history of endowments in the UAE through interactive displays and digital platforms. The exhibition highlighted the evolution of endowments throughout the UAE's history, as well as the legal framework governing their development.

The event was attended by prominent figures including Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Shaikh Abdullah bin Bayyah, Dr. Omar Habtoor Al-Darei, Dr. Sultan bin Saif Al Neyadi, Minister of State for Youth Affairs, distinguished scholars, officials from endowment institutions in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, and experts in endowment affairs in the UAE.

Couldn't they discuss something more relevant to our modern lives? Endowments seem outdated in today's world.

Another conference, another photo-op. When will they finally take concrete action on these issues instead of just talking?

An exhibition on the history of endowments feels irrelevant and self-congratulatory. We need to focus on the future, not the past.

The inclusion of non-religious perspectives adds valuable depth and inclusivity to the discussion about social well-being.

Just another event where wealthy elites gather and congratulate themselves. I doubt anything substantial comes out of these discussions.

Focusing on "charitable work" ignores the need for systemic change and economic justice to address societal issues.
