Pope Francis Recovering in Hospital, Thanks Supporters for Prayers
The Vatican released a photo of Pope Francis at the Gemelli hospital in Rome, marking his first public appearance since his hospitalization on February 14th. The 88-year-old Pope is seen wearing a stole, a garment worn during Mass, indicating his continued participation in religious activities despite his illness.
Pope Francis has been battling pneumonia at the hospital, and according to the Vatican, he is continuing his treatment without receiving any visitors. In a text prepared for his weekly Angelus prayer, the Pope expressed his gratitude for the prayers and support he has received during this "period of trial."
Outside the hospital, dozens of children gathered to show their support for the Pope. In his message, Pope Francis acknowledged their presence and expressed his love for them. He also called for continued prayers for peace, particularly in war-torn countries like Ukraine, Palestine, Israel, Lebanon, Myanmar, Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Last week, the Pope sent a telegram expressing his condolences and prayers for the victims of deadly flooding in the Argentinian port city of Bahia Blanca and the nearby city of Cerri. He acknowledged the loss of life and extensive damage caused by the natural disaster and offered prayers for the deceased, the bereaved, and those suffering in the aftermath. He also prayed for the strength and grace of those involved in the search for missing individuals and the rebuilding efforts.
