The Budget Session of Parliament Resumes
The Budget Session of Parliament resumed on Monday, March 17th, after a brief adjournment for Holi. Both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha convened to address key legislative matters.
BJP MP Radha Mohan Singh and SP MP Virendra Singh presented reports from the Standing Committee on Defence.
Congress leader Shashi Tharoor and BJP MP Arun Govil presented the fifth report of the Standing Committee on External Affairs on the 'Demands for Grants of the Ministry of External Affairs for 2025-26.'
Lok Sabha members PC Mohan and Godam Nagesh presented reports from the Standing Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan moved a motion for the election of two members to the court of the University of Delhi.
The session also included discussion and voting on the Demands for Grants under the Ministry of Railways for 2025-26.
The second part of the budget session began on March 10th and was marked by an uproar in the Rajya Sabha over Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge's 'thokenge' remark. Kharge's statement, directed towards the government and its policies, was met with strong opposition from the BJP, who deemed it disrespectful to the chair. Kharge subsequently apologized for his remark, clarifying that it was not aimed at the Deputy Chairman.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan reiterated the government's stance on the National Education Policy and responded to allegations of imposing Hindi on states. He emphasized the government's commitment to the Tamil language and condemned attempts to divide society using languages.
