People-Centered Approach Takes Center Stage at NPC Annual Session

National Lawmakers Conclude Annual Session with Focus on People-Centered Approach

The third session of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC) concluded on Tuesday, with a strong emphasis on a people-centered approach to governance. Vice-chairman Li Hongzhong urged lawmakers to unite and work together to implement whole-process people's democracy, ultimately contributing to the building of a strong nation and the great rejuvenation of China.

Li emphasized the importance of harnessing the wisdom and strength of the people, adhering to the principle of "everything for the people and everything relying on the people." He stressed the need to continuously meet the people's aspirations for a better life.

President Xi Jinping, along with other leaders, attended the closing meeting held at the Great Hall of the People. Li called on NPC deputies to further promote Chinese modernization by following the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics and focusing on their tasks.

During the closing meeting, deputies approved resolutions on the Government Work Report, the national economic and social development plan for 2025, and the central budget for 2025. They also adopted resolutions on the work reports of the NPC Standing Committee, the Supreme People's Court, and the Supreme People's Procuratorate. Additionally, a decision was made to amend the Law on Deputies to the National People's Congress and to the Local People's Congresses at Various Levels.

NPC deputies praised the amended law, highlighting its importance in standardizing their behavior and protecting their rights. They expressed confidence that the revised law would greatly assist them in fulfilling their duties and serving the people effectively.

By Saturday noon, the third session's secretariat had received 269 motions and over 8,000 suggestions from NPC deputies. These suggestions primarily focused on legislation in key, emerging, and foreign-related sectors, while the motions addressed boosting consumption and investment, driving the integrated development of technological and industrial innovation, and promoting high-quality growth through artificial intelligence.
