A Tribute at the London Book Fair
The 80th anniversary of the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War was commemorated at the London Book Fair through a series of events hosted by Chinese and British publishers.
The Story of George Aylwin Hogg," a biography of the British journalist who dedicated his life to supporting China's war against Japanese aggression. The book, filled with Hogg's letters and journalistic works, offers a comprehensive look at his early life, his journey as a reporter in China, and his efforts to support the Chinese people during the war. Notably, he founded a school for war orphans in Shaanxi.
Mark Aylwin Thomas, the author of the book and Hogg's nephew, expressed his hope that the translated edition would allow Chinese readers to learn more about this "extraordinary person" who "loved and respected his fellow human beings regardless of race, belief or cultural differences, striving selflessly with compassion for a common positive goal."
Chen Guangyao, representing the book's publisher, People's Publishing House, emphasized that Hogg's story serves as a historical testament to the friendship between China and Britain. He expressed hope that the Chinese edition would further strengthen this bond and contribute to promoting world peace and development.
The book fair also saw the unveiling of five other publications focusing on the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression.
Hugo de Burgh, director of the China Media Centre at the University of Westminster, spoke at a seminar where Chinese and British writers and scholars shared stories and insights on the wartime bonds between the two countries. He stressed the importance of helping younger generations understand the dangers and suffering caused by conflict and war. He also highlighted the role of "responsible publishers" in reminding people of the "positive aspects of our relationships" that emerged from the shared experiences of war and hardship.
Furthermore, a special screening of "The Sinking of the Lisbon Maru" took place during the book fair. This documentary tells the story of the heroic rescue of British prisoners of war by Chinese fishermen during World War II.

This is just propaganda. Hogg was a tool of the CCP. Don't let them fool you. 😠

Focus on the present, not the past. This is just stirring up old hatred. 🙄

There's no need to translate this book into Chinese. The Chinese people already know their history. 🙄
