Parcel Delivery Network Transforms Lives in Xinjiang, Bringing Prosperity to Remote Communities

Parcel Delivery Network Improves Lives in Xinjiang

Aymusar Tohutong, a member of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, spoke about the positive impact of China's growing parcel delivery network on the lives of people in Xinjiang. She highlighted how this network has enabled residents to sell local agricultural products, such as mutton and fruit, throughout the country, significantly improving their livelihoods.

Tohutong, who is also the vice-head of the Wuqia county committee of the CPPCC, noted that every village in her county now has a parcel delivery station. This development has been crucial for local herders and farmers who previously struggled to sell their products beyond local markets due to the mountainous terrain and lack of reliable logistics.

With the implementation of the national rural express delivery project, logistics services have reached every village in Wuqia, bringing tangible benefits to the local population. Tohutong shared the example of a local herder who now sells high-quality beef and mutton nationwide through express delivery and e-commerce platforms, resulting in doubled sales compared to the past.

The expansion of express delivery services has not only boosted the local economy but also improved people's lives. Farmers and herders are earning more, and there is a visible increase in happiness among the residents.

Wuqia county's story reflects China's rapid development in parcel delivery, particularly the advancement of the rural logistics system. Over the past decade, the country has witnessed a remarkable transformation in its rural logistics, providing millions of rural residents with faster and more accessible delivery services. Nearly 98% of townships across the country now have delivery stations, and many rural communities enjoy direct access to express delivery.

With 337,800 parcel delivery stations established in villages last year, China is effectively tackling the "last-mile" problem in rural parcel delivery. This progress has significantly improved the lives of people in remote areas like Wuqia, enabling them to participate in the broader market and enjoy the benefits of e-commerce.

Don't let this positive story distract you from the ongoing human rights abuses happening in Xinjiang.

This story only paints a partial picture of the situation in Xinjiang. We need a more nuanced and critical analysis.
