China's Ambassador to Japan Calls for Joint Safeguarding of Justice and World Peace
In an interview on the sidelines of China's annual legislative and political advisory meetings, Chinese Ambassador to Japan Wu Jianghao emphasized the importance of jointly safeguarding justice, the postwar international order, and world peace. He urged Tokyo to reject malicious competition directed at China and work together to uphold multilateralism and the global free trade system.
This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-45) and the World Anti-Fascist War. While acknowledging Japan's recent statement to "face up to history and look to the future," Wu expressed concern about right-wing forces in the country denying the history of aggression and glorifying wars of aggression.
He quoted Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who stressed the duty of Japan to guard against the revival of militarism and the firm resolve of the Chinese and Asian people to prevent such a challenge.
Ambassador Wu expressed China's readiness to work with all peace-loving and righteous people in Japan and around the world to champion human conscience and justice, the postwar international order, and lasting peace between China and Japan and in the world.
He highlighted the positive interactions between China and Japan since the meeting between President Xi Jinping and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba in November 2023, noting the momentum of improvement and development in bilateral ties.
Wu emphasized the importance of adhering to the political foundation of China-Japan relations, as outlined in the four landmark China-Japan political documents. He stressed the need to follow the leaders' consensus to manage and control contradictions and divergences, rule out external disturbances, and promote stable improvement and development of bilateral relations.
Regarding Taiwan, Wu warned against the high-profile collusion of some Japanese political figures with "Taiwan independence" separatist forces. He reaffirmed China's commitment to national reunification and warned that any attempt to separate Taiwan from China will not be allowed.
Ambassador Wu expressed China's openness to tapping complementary advantages and achieving higher levels of win-win cooperation with Japan. He emphasized the importance of promoting technology and innovation, new quality productive forces, emerging industries, and the digital economy as new highlights for growth.
He also called for joint efforts to oppose unilateralism and protectionism and to safeguard multilateralism and the global free trade system in the face of uncertainties in the current international economic situation.
Finally, Wu welcomed more Japanese friends to visit China and urged the Japanese government to adopt tangible measures to facilitate the exchange of visits between China and Japan based on the principle of reciprocity and mutual benefit.

I agree with the Ambassador. Japan should not support 'Taiwan independence'. Peaceful reunification is the only way forward.

I find it hard to trust China's intentions when they continue to militarize the South China Sea.

The Ambassador's remarks about 'Taiwan independence' are unacceptable. Taiwan is a sovereign nation and deserves international recognition.

Bravo! China and Japan must work together for peace and justice. We cannot forget the horrors of war and must prevent its recurrence.
