China to Protect DeepSeek Following Potential US Ban
China's Foreign Ministry has declared its intention to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies, including DeepSeek, in response to reports that the Trump administration is considering a ban on the AI company's chatbot for use on U.S. government devices.
"China has always opposed moves to overstretch the concept of national security or politicize trade and tech issues," said Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning at a regular news briefing in Beijing. "We will firmly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises."
The potential ban on DeepSeek stems from concerns raised by the White House regarding national security. Last week, the Wall Street Journal reported that the administration is weighing measures to restrict the Chinese AI upstart, including potentially banning its chatbot from government devices.
China has consistently opposed the politicization of trade and technology issues, emphasizing the importance of fair and open markets. The country's stance on DeepSeek reflects its commitment to protecting the interests of its companies and promoting a level playing field in the global tech landscape.

Deep learning is a global technology. We shouldn't try to isolate ourselves from the rest of the world.

We can't allow China to control the future of AI. We need to develop our own technology and protect our interests.

Focusing on national security is important, but we also need to consider the economic and technological implications of our actions.
